In 1964, Charles and Eleanor Garrett founded Garrett Electronics, Inc. out of Mr. Garrett's desire to build a better metal detector than what was currently available on the market. As an electronic engineer, he revolutionized metal detector technology with the invention of a coaxial search coil winding technique, independently-operated search coils, and the elimination of oscillator drift.

To this day, all Garrett metal detectors are still made in the U.S.A. while Garrett engineers continually strive to make the sport of treasure hunting more enjoyable and more productive.
